She is somewhat good because she is on chief Tang side, but she is bad because Chief Tang is actually spy sent to infiltrate sect with ulterior motives of taking over the sect. Chief Tang is a princess of empire sent on a mission for resources,... just... she isn't playing as dirty as other factions, so that makes her a little less bad. And their empire doesn't play for "young patriarch" which is main reason why everyone wants to kill Tan Yun no matter what. She also has kind of sad history, not to mention that empire play is on half righteous side. More than 50% elders and top disciples are spies of factions. Hell, even Subing and Shen clan have ulterior motive for joining,... revenge for Subings father

The reason she smirked is simply because what was killed was their competition. Also, part might be because the elder who was killed for misdiagnose was under Tang as well (her comrade). Basically, competing factions accused her of misdiagnose of her twice superior (sect+faction) in order to get rid of her at the same time as Tang should die.
